Trinity Advances to Elite Eight with Win over Stevens

The Bantams downed Stevens 17-8 in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Bantams were looking to repeat the strong offensive output of Wednesday’s game, and they came close to matching it, with an impressive 17 goals. It was truly a total team effort, with four different playing contributing hat tricks, Megan, Caite, Kristin, and Alisen. Liz added 2 goals, while Remer, Haley, and Kaitlin chipped in one goal apiece. Remer led the team in assists, with two, while Jenn, Alisen, Liz, and Haley all added one apiece. While the Bantams held a solid 7-3 lead heading into halftime, Trinity exploded with scoring in the second half to add another 10 goals before time expired. Senior Kristin finished the first half with a nice unassisted tally before opening the second half with a free position goal. Alisen had a strong second half, scoring all three of her goals in the second, with her first coming off a free position.

Much of the offensive effort was possible because of the Bantam success on draw controls. The Bantams won a commanding 20 of 26 draw controls, with midfielder Megan and defenders Annie and Emma winning 3 apiece, while Jenn, Caite, Kristin, Liz, and Sarah all chipped in 2 apiece. The Bantams were strong on defense as well, picking up 20 ground balls to Stevens 16. Jenn and Alisen led the Bantams, with 4 ground balls each, while Liz added 3. Steph finished the game with three saves for the Bantams. The Bantams were dominant in the midfield, successfully transitioning the ball from defense to attack on 8 of 9 opportunities, while limiting Steven s to only 8 successful clears on a possible 19 opportunities. It was the team-wide focus and hardwork re-defending that allowed for such success in the midfield and this is something the Bantams will look to replicate in tomorrow’s Elite Eight match-up against host Gettysburg.
